Bread and Water for Africa (BWA) are joining the Street Child Group

All of you will have felt the personal impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic over the past few years but we could not have predicted the impact it would have any on every aspect of our lives. Bread and Water for Africa is no exception; with decreased donations and the loss of sponsorships from corporate companies, it was becoming increasingly difficult to get the same level of support over to community projects in Africa. We had to make some tough choices on who and what we supported, when everyone needed support more than ever.

We do believe we are ‘better together’ and our communities in Africa have shown us these past two years how coming together really does mean resources can go further. We are pleased to announce that from 1st April 2022 we will be joining the Street Child Group, a charity which positions working with local communities at the heart of everything they do.

Street Child is a comparatively young charity, only founded in 2008 and still run by its founder, Tom Dannatt. Much like BWA, Street Child is committed to supporting and building up great local organizations. Whilst they have grown to a much larger scale, their ethos is to ensure every child is safe, in school and learning. In just 14 years the charity has supported over 650,000 children in low resource environments and emergencies with services such as direct access to education and mental health provision. It works in over 20 countries across sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, as well as having just launched its first emergency response in Europe in support of Ukraine. Becoming part of the Street Child Group means BWA can ensure longer term security for the communities in which we work and deploy resources in the most effective, efficient way possible for maximum impact.

With the support of Street Child we will continue to support communities in Africa with life changing education, nutrition and livelihoods program. To ensure a strong transition I also wanted to confirm I am joining the board of trustees for a year.

Together, with you, we have built a family who share our passion, commitment and determination to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in Africa. We have appreciated your support so very much and are looking forward to working with you to do even more throughout 2022 and beyond. Through our recent ‘save our charity’ appeal we raised over £6000 which will be sent directly to John at GFYA – thank you!

We are working hard with Street Child to confirm the finer details and for now nothing will change. We promise to keep you up to date with all developments as they unfold.

We understand you may have questions, so feel free to get in touch via any of the methods listed below and we will do our best to help you.

Thank you so very much for your continued support. We truly treasure our wonderful donors and without you, many children in Africa would be without food, education and hope for a better future for themselves.
