Volunteer in the UK

Join our global community of volunteers and help us change lives in Africa.

“Throughout my time here, I have learned more than I could have imagined, seen lives of hundreds positively changed, and read and heard from so many of those that we help.”
-- Melissa, communications and social media volunteer since January 2017

You can make a real difference

  • Make a real difference for communities in Africa.
“You at BWAUK are really amazing for all the wonderful work you do! I'm just happy to have the privilege to help from the comfort of my couch."
-- Rashiu, Video Editor Volunteer, Mexico City

How can you help?

There are many things you can do to help, either as a one-off project or by dedicating a few hours a week to specific tasks. Please note: we do not have an office base and our very small team work from their homes and our volunteers are required to have access to their own laptop and internet.

Current opportunities:

Due to travel restrictions around COVID-19 we are currently not hosting any volunteer trips abroad. We have a limited capacity to take on occasional volunteers for office and programme support work in the following areas:

  • Special project coordinator: we have an exciting project in the pipeline that requires someone with grit, enthusiasm, some marketing or sales experience and a passion for food/events/fundraising or Africa to get this project off the ground.
  • Writer/editor: help us curate new content for our website and make sure our message comes across loud and clear.
  • Photo editor: help us sort through and organise our photo bank which counts thousands of shots and videos from our partners over the years.
  • Webmaster: help us upload articles and updates, make sure our SEO is optimized, etc.
  • Social media: is your smartphone basically an extension of your hand? Then you probably know a thing or two about social media and can help us spread our message.
  • Graphic design: brochures, mailings, newsletters, reports… We constantly have to produce communication materials for our donors and supporters. A creative person with good InDesign or Photoshop skills would be a huge asset.
  • Hold a booth for us at a fair or Christmas market. We have many lovely items from Africa to sell for the benefit of the programmes we support. *Please note, this is on hold until restrictions are lifted.

If you recognise yourself in any of the above, or if you think you have other skills you can bring to the table, then in the first instance please complete an application form and email it to: [email protected] If you don't have a printer fill in and email the word version.

But that’s not all!

We are always in great need of more funds and there are many things you can do to help us raise vital income:

  • Organise a fundraiser
  • Become an ambassador
  • Talk to your church, school or university group
  • Host a stand at a fair on behalf of BWAUK
  • Host an African themed supper
  • Volunteer in Africa

We are a small team and as such can only take on a few volunteers at a time. Fill in the form and we will let you know if we have an opportunity we think you would enjoy.

Thank you!
